The Proprietary Association of Great Britain PAGB and the Medicines and Healthcare products Regulatory Agency MHRA held a joint reception to celebrate 25 years of switching medicines. Switching is the process of moving medicines which previously have only been available on prescription (POM) to availability for sale over the counter (OTC) as pharmacy medicines (P) under the supervision of a pharmacist. This process called switching or reclassification widens public access to safe, effective over-the-counter medicines and provides greater convenience and choice for the public, it also helps reduce the burden on the NHS. Reclassifying medicines from prescription only to over the counter use has resulted in nine out of ten common illnesses now being treated by people themselves.Primary Format :
