Michael Hudson on Bonnie Faulkner’s Guns & Butter.

This attempt to imply that there is no financial take-over and smear it with the word conspiracy is just a typical tactic that the mainstream capitalist media use all the time. If you read any of the talks or listen to any of the podcasts by Michael Hudson, the name Goldman Sachs and the names of the other biggest banks in the world keep coming up. A good start might be this podcast below whilst the text of that talk can be found at this link: http://michael-hudson.com/2011/09/debt-defla ...

PART TWO Danny Morrison Eamon Mallie Eamon Phoenix discuss media misinformation 1981 H Block hunger strikes

Very interesting discussion on Today PK (RTE Radio One) of how media misinformation, most of which originated during the 1981 H Block hunger strikes resurfaced during the release of state papers in 2012. Allegations that: - Bobby Sands told the Pope's representative that he would come off the hunger strike; - that Raymond McCreesh's family forced him to remain on hunger strike; - that the British agreed the substance of the prisoner's demands between the death of the fourth and fift ...

#OccupyIreland, 6 camps and building... Dublin, Cork, Galway, Belfast, Waterford...Letterkenny..

The Occupy movement has grown steadily in the past 4 weeks in Ireland. It is part of the global Occupy movement. As to what it is about is best summed up by the OccupyGalway statement: Occupy Galway is part of the international movement against austerity measures imposed on ordinary people around the world. We are all part of the 99% who, so far, have been subject to economic inequality and social injustice from the 1% who control the world's resources. We, the 99% demand: 1 - The removal ...

Eoghan Harris whips establishment into line on Sinn Fein

Eoghan Harris suffered a rare sideswipe on Marian Finnucane's radio programme on RTE RADIO ONE on Sunday 9 October 2011. Former Fine Gael minister Gemma Hussey said she wanted to say something on Martin McGuinness. Fianna Fail supporting Marian was more than happy to oblige, thinking perhaps that there was to be some McGuinness bashing. Instead Gemma noted what is obvious to readers of the rag every week, but is rarely mentioned on Marian's radio programme, that the Sunday Independent s ...

Connecting the Anthrax Attacks to September 11th

Not mentioned here and probably forgotten by most people were the anthrax attacks in the form of anthrax letters in the days following 9/11. During this time, they were delivered the second punch and kept the climate of fear going thereby paving the way for the Patroit Act to go through. In the podcast interview on Guns & Butter, an excellent account is made of the sequence of events around these and the narrative that was given and this is teased apart of by Dr. Graeme MacQueen. Pat Kenny's radio show has long been a platform for the most kookiest of deniers, and it is quite clear where his own views are on the subject. Alrighty netizens? So, the last of the turkey sandwiches have been dusted off and New Year's day hangover has become a memory as faint as that beer stain on the new carpet. Well, we here in Indymedia.ie have a favour to ask. We are hoping you have it in your hearts to extend the season of good will just a little bit longer. Just long enough to come down for banter and dance at a fundraiser we are organizing on January 15th, one of our little irregular efforts to boost the coffers of our dec ...

I made mp3's of CNN's Karl Penhaul video report and Cynthia McKinney's CNN interview just in case CNN decides to 'disappear' them... UPDATE: I finally found the Penhaul video that I took the audio from (below), his report allows one to get the scale of things - a small boat harassed and attacked by multiple Israel Navy ships.

Recent talk by Dick Bryan at Historical Materialism Conference 2008

This is a talk given by Dick Bryan from the University of Sydney at the recent Historical Materialism 2008 conference in London the weekend before last. Bryan collaborated with Mike Rafferty to co-author the ground-breaking book "Capitalism and Derivatives" in 2006. One of the first books to properly examine the recent explosive developments in high finance from an anti-capitalist perspective, they have blazed a new path in investigating the hyper-evolution of current capitalist financial ...

Chaos Cabaret at the Cork Grassroots Gathering

This audio is from the Chaos Cabaret on Saturday night when various people got up to do their piece. I missed some and not all worked in terms of recording (eg the mime based a round having an enormous lump of modelling clay on your head, see image). But here are some songs, instrumentals and even poetry to give you a sense of things. Someone local might be able to identify the different performers, I didn't want to post an incomplete list based on the ones I recognised.

I got a lift back to Limerick from Ennis, after the beating delivered by Conor in court, in Ed Horgan's car. I asked the occupants if I could record an open discussion about the day's events and the goings on in Shannon generally. They agreed. At one point I asked Tim Hourigan how it felt to be treated as a criminal by the garda and APO's when it was the intention of activists like Tim to investigate crimes in an attempt to secure justice. Here's what he had to say:

Towards A cure - introduction

On the size of the demonstration I didn't do a count but I'd say somewhere in the 1200 - 1800 range makes sense at the start - as with other demonstrations this may have grown as people joined en route. Anyone interested in a more exact count could probably get very close from the video posted above as this is simply a film of the entire march passing by so it should be pretty easy to count rows and multiply up. I've attached the audio track from the video to this post as I'd a couple of r ...

Anarchist talk on the rise of fascism in Germany

In a period of mass unemployment in 1920's Germany fascism came to power despite not only the presence of mass Communist and Social Democratic parties but also of significant anti-fascist street fighting. Why did the left fail and what was the attraction of fascism. What about fascist movements today, do they represent a similar threat? Can we even agree a single definition of what fascism is?

Some quotes from the piece: The plan to develop the area seems ill thought-out. The siting of the project has created environmental problems already, with the pollution of the lake. Its being done primarily by companies in order to save money. It doesnt seem like oil companies really need to be saving money right now: they should be spending more and cleaning up their pollution and doing things in a cleaner, better way.
