M.U.S.I.K. is a month-long endeavor to write a new piece of music each day. The challenge of coming up with an idea and then recording it every 24 hours pushes me to be creative on a deadline. With no rules on instrumentation or length, the results vary wildly, so the best approximation I can give is that each day will bring a subset of time devoted to patterned noise. MUSIK - Aug 31 - "Revolver Unloaded" Finally settling on idea number seven or so, I pulled this minimal sketch out of the woodwork and got it down nice and slow. Until now, it has only existed as a MIDI file. But I finally recorded it live and I couldn't be (much) happier. It's more jazzy than rock, and has a requisite smooth bass line, but it also gets going in the middle-to-end part, so I classify it as rock. I also chose to add a viola and piccolo to mix things up a bit. There's some definite tension going on here. A frenetic melody along with some lo-fi percussion gives away to a solo of sorts before repeating the main theme. It took a long time to make despite the fact that it sounds like approximately 59 billion other songs of its ilk. Canada would be proud.
