WIA: Members and Guests Descend on Broken Hill

Today saw a major influx of members and guests into Broken Hill for the WIA AGM weekend and to participate in the planned social and tourism events. 40 meter and 2 meter simplex stations were set up in the Southern Cross Hotel on Thursday evening to accompany people travelling by road. Iran Speedboat Conflict Falsely Attributed to Ham Radio

The recent conflict between speedboats in Iran and an American warship is being blamed on a false transmission from elsewhere. The perpetrator is being labeled as a Radio Ham in this news story. Technocrat.net would like to point out that anyone with a boat is likely to have the sort of radio involved, and many more exist on shore. Yesterday's combative appearance of Howard Stern on Late Night with David Letterman lasted three freewheeling segments, sparing few media heavyweights. There were some tender moments. Stern mainly used the appearance to settle old media scores, sharpening his rhetorical knives on his archnemeses: Don Imus, Dr. Phil, Oprah Winfrey and Jay Leno.--On Letterman's supposed fascination with ham radio: Stern said, ''Listen to me ... a lot of serial killers are ham radio operators.''

Quake drill tests Hemet emergency response

At about 7:30 a.m. Thursday, when the day was just starting to pick up for many residents, a simulated earthquake with an estimated magnitude of 7.4 occurs on the northern segment of the San Jacinto Fault Zone. First estimates of the imaginary epicenter were placed at two miles southeast of Highway 60 and Gilman Springs Road.

Fulton Amateur Radio Club celebrates 50th Anniversary (New York)

FULTON, NY (2007-07-27) Since the early 1900's people have been experimenting with wireless radio. The Fulton Amateur Radio Club recently ran a Special Events Station to celebrate its 50th anniversary. UK: Ofcom Proposes Lifetime Licenses for Radio Amateurs in the UK

CQ Names Hall of Famers for 2005

CQ Amateur Radio magazine has announced the induction of 17 new members of its Amateur Radio, Contesting and DXing halls of fame. Names of the inductees were made public May 22 during Dayton Hamvention."CQ congratulates all of these deserving honorees," said CQ Editor Rich Moseson, W2VU. CW Ops Whip Whippersnapper Text Messengers on National Television
