#230 The Helium Tapes

The Helium Tapes are back! And they have a new CD! This is a song from a show I shot last spring at what was originally planned to be their CD Release party, but one event after another prevented them from releasing it untill now. Go do a search for it at CD baby, Amazon, [...]

Sample Track: Helium Tapes - Early Days [FREE MUSIC]

The Helium Tapes [myspace page link] have finally released their first CD that they, as near as I can tell, have been working on since they formed. It’s not that they’ve been working on it for 3 years it’s just that several unexpected calamitous events prevented them from getting it out before now. And according [...]

#228 Bob Log III

Fair Warning: This video is not safe for work! I’ve been waiting for Bob Log III to make his return to St. Louis for years now. This mysterious one man band is always a crowd pleaser with his dirty raw blues and his great sense of humor. His identity is hidden behind the visor of a [...]

#227 Ded Bugs

This band is practically a St. Louis institution, except they might have a problem with being called a St. Louis band, since their official headquarters is in DeSoto Missouri. They’ve probably had more success overseas than here, most recently touring Japan in 2006. I really dig their Ramones inspired sound, good fun raw punk rock [...]

iPod | Apple TV | Mobile | Windows Media This is a 4 piece band with 2 members–I could make a lot of punny jokes here, like, this is a band that likes to play with themselves blah blah etc. Basically they’ve done something unique and creative. They play 4 instruments between them by multiplying themselves [...]

Pink Socks

The Kansas City band, Pink Socks, is Jeremiah Kidwell’s new band. We featured Jeremiah’s old band, The Litigators, on one of LO-FI’s early episodes. The Cripplers were one of the finest, trashiest garage/punk/rock’n'roll bands to ever come out of the Midwest. Originally from Columbia, Missouri, the band relocated to St. Louis in the late 1990s. This episode, I have something really special. It’s a performance from the Show-me Blowout by ’60s garage rocker Craig Moore. The 75's

This is a first in a couple of ways, this is a video from the first show ever of a new band, The 75’s. And the first time we’ve ever featured a clip of a band at their debut performance. The 75s are a (mostly) female trio that describe their music as “smartly crafted girlie indie garage punk pop.”

Doc Popular Yo-Yo Master!

You might know Doc Popular as a nerdcore rapper, or a lo-fi techno musician who plays on bent toy electronics, or maybe you bought one of his crafty blue jean wallets, or read one of his comics, or maybe you’ve seen him in a video or two. But I think this is the first time anyone has actually got him to sit down and talk about his career as a yo-yo champion. One doesn’t get many chances to see a yo-yo champ perform, so I had to interview this San Francisco-based renaissance man when he ...

The Cowboy Cabaret

The Cowboy Cabaret is a throwback to the good old days of night clubs. You know — when good wholesome family entertainment was in style. When you could take a date out on a Sunday night and hear a comedian tell dirty jokes and girls would sing and dance and take off their clothes to tunes played by real live muscians. Yeah, that kind of entertainment. It happens on the first Sunday of every month at the Atomic Cowboy. If you want to see this, get your tickets in advance because every show ...

The Black Diamond Heavies

I’ve been looking forward to this show for a while. I discovered this band several months ago and fell in love with their raw, bluesy, lo-fi sound. They’re a two-piece (piano/organ and drums) and their home base is in Louisville, KY., but for the last six months they’ve been tearing up stages all over Europe and the States. This date in St. Louis was the last of this tour. You should be able to find their Alive Records release at your local record store, or favorite Internet retailer ...

The Helium Tapes

A few weeks ago, I posted a video from the Venus Envy art show. And I got a great response from the music I used in that video’s sound track. That band was the Helium Tapes. I got a lot of requests about the availability of their music for purchase. Unfortunately, they’ve had a CD in the works for a while now but it’s not yet been released. I got some advanced tracks because I’m special. So with that in mind, I thought I would post something from last summer — it’s a performance ...
