Episode One: The Celebrated Jumping Frog of Calaveras CountyHello, Internet. I'm Christina. As inspired by one of my favorite corners of the web, Miette's Bedtime Story Podcast, this podcast will attempt a similar premise. I will read you stories. I hope you enjoy them. I thought we'd kick things off with Mark Twain's short classic, "The Celebrated Jumping Frog of Calaveras County." A fun little bit of Americana you'd have to be nuts not to appreciate. Behold my pathetic attempt at a southern accent, and may the podcast BEGIN!Download [64kb] Listen | Listen in your iPhone | Download | View full cache | Visit Website Episode Two: One of These DaysIn keeping with my single-post spree of mustachioed authors, here's Gabriel Garcia Marquez' "One of These Days." Quite possibly my favorite author, and certainly my favorite Hispanic author.I do wish I knew Spanish well enough to be able to enjoy his works in their original language, rather than their translated English-counterparts. But, alas. I shame my Mexican blood with my English degree.Download [64kb]Listen | Listen in your iPhone | Download | View full cache | Visit Website Episode Three: A Haunted HouseAlright, this is starting to feel legit. From now on, my podcasts will include a fair bit more than just the reading, as podcasts should. I'm new at this, remember? It'll take some time to get my bearings, spread my wings, and other such idioms. Also, I have decided to conduct a little--and by little, I mean massive--experiment with this 'ere blog 'o mine. I have subscribed to and linked every blog directory I could find. Not only does this look hilarious; it might just increase my audience. ... I fear all that might come of it, in this sleepy state of mine, would be random murmurings of buzz words like "gender stereotypes" and "limited expectations," with the occasional "mmmrrrrr" and "snooooore" thrown in. Perhaps next fairy tale post. For now ... Listen | Listen in your iPhone | Download | View full cache | Visit Website Episode Five: Wolf AliceJackson Pollock's "She-Wolf." Upon first reading this short story, from the piles and piles of half-remembered paintings shoved into the filing cabinets of my brain, this image popped into memory. After several minutes of googling "beast" and "abstract" and "painting" and "expressionism," at last, I found it. And, wouldn't you know, it showed itself in some long-forgotten blog entry discussing this exact short story. I was partly annoyed, but mostly amazed, by this coincidence. On a more p ... Neil Gaiman is one of the most talented and successful storytellers of this generation. Fantasy, science fiction, mythology, horror, short fiction, novels, screenplays. You name it; Gaiman can rock it and rock it hard. Hell, the man could walk around in his pajamas, for all I care. As long as he never stops writing (Plus, he's sort of dreamy, eh?)Download [64kb]Listen | Listen in your iPhone | Download | View full cache | Visit Website Episode Six: How to Talk to Girls at PartiesDon't let the shaggy-hair and five o'clock shadow fool you.
