When you plan a wireless link from an Omnidirectional antenna to a directional antenna, there are some considerations to keep in mind. Note that it is generally not good practise to use omnidirectional antennas in long distance links as it pollutes the wireless spectrum.
Don't be caught with your pants down! Install lightning protection on your antenna, or face the consequences of frying your equipment. Since you usually mount antennas in high places, it should make common sense that you should fit lightning protection, no? (duh)
Line of sight is an important consideration if you want to set up a point to point or point to multipoint wireless link. Also explained here is the fresnel zone concept.
