Soulshack (Show 8) - Killer Jazz
I'm getting back into the whole podcast sharing stuff recently, mainly due to Facebook. Its great sharing one tune at a time with friends, but nothing beats a good set, so here goes. OK it's been some time, this show is long overdue. Some very classy jazz vibes for those ears of yours. Conjuring up Sunday mornings at Caister, Sunday afternoons at Dingwalls. Jon died on August 18th 2007 of respiratory problems and it is a very sad loss to the music world. Jon made some remarkable music that crossed over the soul and jazz spectrum. He was one of my all time favorite vocalists, especially the albums from the 70s, Minds Eye, Rashida and I Am Now. I have compiled a small tribute to Jon for this podcast. God bless you Jon, Rest in peace.

I really dont think that there is one person on this earth that hasnt heard or been moved by one of Doziers songs. Lamont Dozier teamed up with the Holland brothers at motown in the early sixties where they churned out hundreds of tunes like Baby Love, Where Did Our Love Go, Baby I Need Your Loving, You Can't Hurry Love, Reach Out, I'll Be There, How Sweet It Is (To Be Loved By You), Stop! In The Name ... In a nutshell crossover soul sounds great and fits in well at both Northern and Modern soul gigs. Enjoy

As far back as the early seventies DJs such as Chris Hill were playing jazz to the loyal followers, this kind of Jazz was more uptempo and more suited to the dancefloor. The early eighties saw key London DJs specialise in this kind of music, the likes of Paul Murphy and Dr Bob Jones were sourcing and playing rare uptempo jazz combined with jazz funk and rare groove, the scene was born, w ... These particular songs remind me of the encore tunes that Gilles Peterson and Patrick Forge would play on a Sunday afternoon at Dingwalls, just as you would be ready to walk out, boom, on came one of these tunes and you would do a 360 straight back inside! SoulJazz was also a record shop located abo ... Listen | Listen in your iPhone | Download | View full cache | Visit Website Soulshack (Show 1)A selection of four quality soul cuts from way back when.
