TC 121 - A Bit of Context

(click the magic button to hear or download the 38 minute episode) Let me know if show notes are required. It seems that having 'em would run counter to what this Free Association thing I'm trying to put together is all about. But I'm willing to consider alternative views. Image provided by Ardesia under Creative Commons licensing via Flickr. Grazie tanto, Ardesia!!

TC 120 - Hitting the Sweet Spot

(click the magic button to hear or download the 30 minute episode) This one-hundred-twentieth episode came unexpectedly on a Sunday afternoon at home. Show notes don't really seem to make sense for this one as it's pretty self-explanatory. Curious listeners might be interested in tracking down the Warren Ellis blog post referenced at the close of the episode which was prompted by a recent report about some science stuff from the BBC.

TC 119 - For the record...

(click the magic button to hear or download the 9 minute episode) It seems that this is the time of year when this podcast always appears to crash and burn. Over the past three years a number of folks had declared an end to Tokyo Calling through the silent weeks of late May, June and July. Some might even have felt that the pattern was beginning to repeat itself this year. The point of this short little recording is to declare that nothing could be further from the truth. Though, the fr ...

TC 118 - Always check, it might be mate

(click the magic button to hear or download the 48 minute episode) Well, it's done. It was a fun, challenging and exciting process to put this one together. This is an example of the direction I'd like to take the Tokyo Calling podcast (what am I signing myself on to do?) - there are other ideas in the works as well. I'm not quite sure how to describe this one. The phrase "audio melange" came up in the Twitter this past week. If you have any ideas about what to call this sort of thing ...

TC 117 Solid Golden Week

(click the magic button to hear or download the 33 minute episode) It looks like Japan's First Podcast will be coming through TalkShoe for the foreseeable future. Free hosting that actually returns a small sum compared to paid hosting leaves no choice. This is especially the case considering some decisions I've made about future directions for this podcast. All the details are laid out in a semi-coherent form in the later half of the episode. In the first half is the Kodomonohi fukubik ...

TC 116 - By the way . . .

(click the magic button to hear or download the 19 minute episode) I decided to wrap up the week with one more bit of audio. This didn't work so well over the TalkShoe because of the low quality of the recording. I was surrounded by noise and wind as I made the walk from Iidabashi to Suidobashi. Hopefully, there's enough here to warrant putting it out as an episode.

(click the magic button to hear or download the 33 minute episode) Decided to enjoy a leisurely walk to campus this Monday morning rather than transfer to another hot and crowded subway car. I Heartily Endorse This... (ep01)

(click the magic button to hear or download the podcast) A busy week has prevented me from producing either a Tokyo Calling or My Ears to Your Ears episode - though offerings for both are in the works. My Ears to Your Ears episode 01 - I Remember Seeing Orson Welles on TV

After too many months of dormancy, the ZionRadio Padcast feed delivered three tasty 70 minute mp3s to iTunes this morning. I listened to a hypnotizing episode entitled "music a fe rule" throughout the various stages of my commute during the day. The idea for this audio miniature occurred while listening to twisting-sweep-in-a-swamp sort of jam at the 49 minute mark whilst thinking about Orson Welles on the way home after a long day in the classroom. Wish I could blame the poor sound of this 24 minute echo-chamber-cast on the pain killers from my recent injury. Walking around the Ochanomizu Station area on Saturday, I happened upon St. Nikolai's Russian Orthodox Church. Camera's are not allowed inside the chapel, but I was able to capture a few glimpses of the outside of the building. Built in the late 19th century, the Tokyo Resurrection Cathedral was restored after devastating damage from the Great Kanto Earthquake of 1923.As I was leaving the grounds, I noticed a pair of men installing a cross made of sculpted ice in the courtyard. I wonder if ...

Recompressed and replaced (021107)Against better judgement, your host makes an appearance on camera in this Tuesday morning vlog entry from Onarimon in Tokyo. Today I began a new business English teaching gig and was delighted to see what looked like the Tokyo Calling icon as I emerged from below ground from the subway.I'll be returning to the same place tomorrow. Weather permitting, I hope to do another vlog from high atop the "Tokyo Calling Tower".

From a commentary on the Sushi Police to live coverage of a pair of elementary school kickball games and concluding with a Maker's Mark influenced monologue on why I podcast which follows another new track from Marxy's latest EP - this 58 minute procrastination-cast has a little something for everyone. Episode 70 might not come until early 2007. Still, the call goes out for your audio comments or other contributions to help make it an extra special edition. Links mentioned: Liminalit ...

Thanks to many of you who've left comments on the blog, planning this 41 minute listener-powered-cast was a breeze. Producing it on the other hand was a techno-nightmare. Everything that could go wrong, seemed to go wrong. Following up on San's suggestion, I'd like to put out a request for any of your high-points and low-points for Tokyo Calling in 2006. Also, are there any requests or predictions for the year ahead? I'll try to finish the year with episode 70 which will feature any such ...

Tokyo Calling will most likely be going on a two-week hiatus as your host tries to holistically recover from a severe sore throat and as Japan's First Family of podcasting moves to a larger production studio/abode.
