Part 10- Springtime on the Marsh A stream borders the edge of the marsh. Nearby, a thick stand of cattails rustles in the late afternoon breeze. Red-winged blackbirds, crows, chickadees, woodpeckers, and of course, seagulls join to create Cape Cod’s springtime chorus. In winter Stony Brook runs clear over the stones and ladders that lead from Cape Cod Bay to the Mill Pond, but it’s historic grist mill, built in 1751, still makes for a sound-filled and visually-scenic visit. The water is cooling yet remains entirely swimmable. The peak crowds of August are gone but the activities and cultural events continue unabated. The neighborhoods are quiet again of cars and banging screen doors, but are no less lively. With no music or artificial elements, the sound of crickets on this recording begins with a modest chorus and progresses to a full symhpony.
