Emergency response efforts continue in Springfield, where a tornado devastated the downtown area yesterday evening before crossing the Connecticut River into West Springfield. It was one of a series of apparent tornados and other extreme wether that crashed through Western and Central Massachusetts over the course of five hours. The devastation prompted Governor Deval Patrick to declare a statewide state of emergency and the federal emergency management agency to dispatch crews to the area.
