If you're familiar withSports Bloggers Liveyou've probably heard the infamous"What the [heck] is a blogger?"clip starring SBL fave Reggie Jackson. Well, Reggie was back on the program yesterday talking about himself and the Yankees when he took time out to comment onallegations that Gary Sheffield took performance enhancing drugs. Here's the partial transcription...

SBL Craig:"Hey Reggie, on Thursday the book Game of Shadows hit stores and now Sheffield has been accused by these two writers of taking steroids. What's the Yankees reaction to that and what are your thoughts on the scandal?"

Mr. October:"I really don't know what the reaction is going to be, but it's like dead fish or dead animals with buzzards hanging around it. It seems like the carcass seems to get larger and the birds keep circling more and you start to see the problems and the dead people from a distance now when you see them circling in the sky. It's now getting to the point to where it's obviously nationwide. The circle gets bigger. The vultures get larger. And then the dead things start smelling. So it's not pretty."

No, it's not pretty. And it's cut and dry, really. Players accused of taking steroids are the dead fish/animals/people. The media (and maybe fans as well) are the buzzards/vultures. The players are increasing in size and their collective aroma is unpleasant. The media are working faster and growing more substantial, and the more prevalent they become the more conspicuous the players are. And we just may have a widespread conspiracy on our hands. Oh, and Sheffield? The rest of the transcription follows the photo...

Mr. October:"You know, Gary Sheffield is a high quality guy. Stands behind his word. That's what I've seen when he's been here with the Yankees. But they just keep diggingand digging and digging. It starts to get embarrassing because of the disparaging remarks. For some reason it seems like if you throw enough mud up against the wall, no matter how much you wipe it off you can still see the stains."

That started off as plausible deniability and devolved into a description of game-worn BVDs. I think.

Mr. October:"So that's what I'm starting to feel now. I'm starting to get sensitive about it myself. I really don't like the leaking of data and information without some kind of legal right to go in and pursue all this information that's been gathered. There's too much hearsay. There's too many undisclosed, anonymous comments and at the same time when there are names exposed you just kind of wonder who's behind it all. It'sugly, and I really think it's only going to continue to get worse."

Now I'm starting to feel Reggie. Not so much that I agree with him (at all), but at least he's making sense. And yeah, I really think it's going to get worse too.

 Hear Reggie on Sheffield.
