Adam's sin meant death and separation of all mankind from God. As God pronounces judgment on the couple, He also holds out the hope of a child one day coming from the woman who would crush the serpent's head. We see in the Bible the first prophecy of a coming Messiah who will defeat Satan and his kingdom.
