Now a quiet market town but once on a major crossroads as a coaching stop between London and Glasgow and a crossing point on the old drovers' route from Wales to the livestock markets of the capital. We walk the Town Trail and the Holy Well Walk to the ancient well that was reputed to cure eye ailments
