Jeffrey Sachs is considered one of the world’s foremost economists, having advised dramatic reforms in Bolivia, Poland, and Russia. Long affiliated with Harvard, first as a student and since the early ‘80s as a professor, in early 2002 Sachs was named director of the Columbia University Earth Institute. Sachs has an impressive list of credentials: he taught at Harvard for over 20 years before becoming the Director of The Earth Institute at Columbia University in Manhattan and Quetelet Professor of Sustainable Development and Professor of Health Policy and Management at Columbia. He is an advisor to the International Monetary Fund (IMF), World Bank, Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD), World Health Organization (WHO) and the United Nations Development Fund (UNDP).
