In 2006 the Nature Conservancy purchased the rights to seven federal groundfish trawl permits to protect nearly 4 million acres of seafloor habitat along the Central Coast. They have now started leasing back those permits to fisherman in hopes of making fishing more sustainable and more economically viable. Brian Petersen explores the implications of this new Conservation Fishing Agreement.
