The desire for revenge is a universal and powerful human emotion. The particular circumstances that elicit these feelings might be different for each of us, but the one thing they share in common is that they are deeply personal. Our natural tendency when we’ve been wronged is to get even in some way, but there is another way. There is the way of restraint and forgiveness that was modeled in the life of David when he was on the run from Saul.
1. Life is filled with opportunities for revenge.
2. Human wisdom constantly encourages us towards revenge.
3. God’s people operate by a different standard.
a. They submit themselves to and respect authority
• This is a call to humility
b. They entrust ultimate outcomes to God
• This is a call to faith
c. They repay good for evil
• This is a call to Christ-likeness
