The most fundamental of human desires is not food, shelter and clothing, but the desire to have meaning in life and to have joy. The great problem is that so few have achieved meaning or joy, never mind possessing both. And yet we hunger for them. In our search we try all manner of options, including pleasure, wealth, fame, accomplishment and religion or spirituality. But each one of these options fail to give us what we want. It was Augustine who said, “Our hearts are restless until they find their rest in thee”.
A. The ultimate purpose and joy in life
1. To be a servant of Jesus Christ
2. To be so because of supernatural design
B. The unlikely pathway that leads to this purpose
1. A discovery of our ignorant wretchedness
2. An invasion of mercy and grace
C. The objective basis upon which everything stands
1. Jesus Christ came to save sinners
2. My story illustrates his glory
D. The result of purpose and joy is worship
