Link to the Show / Show NotesCory Doctorow is a Canadian blogger, journalist and science fiction author. Among his numerous occupations, he is a co-editor of the popular blog Boing Boing and an activist in favour of liberalising copyright laws and a advocate of the Creative Commons organisation, using some of their licenses for his books.
Doctorow was the former Director of European Affairs for the Electronic Frontier Foundation, a non-profit civil liberties group that defends freedom in technology law, policy, standards and treaties.
He has also served as the Fulbright Chair at the Annenberg Center for Public Diplomacy at the University of Southern California. Themes woven through Doctorow ‘s work include digital rights management, file-sharing, socialist utopias and Disney.
Cory Doctorow’s novels are published simultaneously on the Internet under Creative Commons licenses that encourage their re-use and sharing, a move he says increases his sales by enlisting his readers to help promote his work. Among his books are the titles - Down and Out in the Magic Kingdom, A Place So Foreign and Eight More, and The Complete Idiot’s Guide to Publishing Science Fiction.
