Master drummer Mongo Santamaria and I sat down one afternoon in February of 1979 in Los Angeles California, and recorded a lengthy conversation that began with his telling me how his Mother wanted him to play piano or some other melodic instrument, but of course as he told me his inclination was always to percussion. Taken from that conversation, this clip begins with Mongo's coming to America in 1950.
