Where do I start? In the last 17 days I have had a
wild ride. Highlighted by a total loss of electrical power
for two weeks. Ever go without power for that long?
It became surreal after ten days. I was beginning to feel
like Vin Diesel in Pitch Black. Wind speeds on Sept. 12th
reached 110 before my wind gauge blew off the building.
The "Livable' forest I live in became a mangle of extremely
large pine trees. I was extremely fortunate to have no trees
fall in my yard. My trees fell in the neighbors yard. My
banana crop was wiped out. [For those following along, I have
been asked over and over how My banana trees were doing.]
My pineapple blew away. It is probably somewhere over
Katmandu by now. No phone. No power. I was only to squeak
out a few text messages late at night after all the texting twits
went to sleep. This was the only way to check on my broadcasting
brethren around the Gulf coast area. Unfortunately some are
still unaccounted for. Half an hour after the storm ended that
Saturday I was outside with my chainsaw cleaning up. as I
surveyed the neighborhood I could see everybody on my street
was out and cleaning up. Then we all had a cook out. People were
bringing out all the meats that were soon to spoil and we fired up
the grilles. The next night [thanks to my 5" battery operated black
and white TV I keep for just such emergencies] all the guys huddled
around for football night in America. Almost everyone on the street
has been wonderful. Truly caring for each other. Generous beyond
belief. That's enough for now. Getting a little long. Enjoy the set.
