Heavy history… we talk to a long-term foreign correspondent who says that because of history, Hungarian nationality is almost like a religion.
Reporter Kester J. Eddy, an Englishman who first came to Hungary in 1982, has lived in Budapest since 1986 and says that to understand the contemporary political scene in Hungary, one must understand a bit about the Hungarian past. Eddy contends that what he experienced in the 1980’s was that while Hungary was indeed ruled by a communist regime, it was a regime that was fairly liberal and eventually willing to relinquish its power.
