Hello and welcome to the Web Hosting Show, the voice of the Web hosting world. This show is sponsored by the fine folks over at Web Hosting Chat. Web Hosting Chat is your number one place on the Web for your Web hosting discussions.

Next weekend, with the holidays and all I'm not sure if I am going to be able to record the Web Hosting Show that weekend. Right now I haven't decided if I am going to try to record it a few days from now instead or do something else. If at all possible I'll try to figure out some way to get you some content next week. Don't loose faith in me yet!

In the works for a future post, hopefully sometime this next week is an interview with Pinny from BrowseHosts.com. The series of articles/interviews I did with him a few months ago were a big hit, so I can't wait to see how the "audio version" is going to turn out.

One more thing before we get to the Web hosting headlines. Remember if you want any of the links for the show or want to learn anything else about something that was said, please visitWebHostingShow.com. There is so much good information there, you just have to check it out. Also I have turned comments back on for everything that is posted there, so go ahead.. give me your feedback!

Web Hosting Tip of the Week

Every so often you just need a quick nugget of knowledge. The Web hosting tip of the week is brought to you byMitchelaneous. Mitchelaneous is my own personal writing space where I go one on one with you everyday with some of my Web hosting articles, random postings and updates on my current projects.

This week's tip is about considering how much space you might need for your Web site before you purchase a Web hosting account. You might have your Web site saved to your local computer and you might know exactly the size of an account you need to get it hosted. What many people don't keep in mind though his growth. You have to give your Web site room for growth in the future. You might not consider it now, but later on down the road you could find yourself wanting to expand some. If you are locked in on how much disk space you have, then you won't be able to grow too far. Yes, you could just upgrade your Web hosting account - but would you have the time to wait for the Web host to get it done? Sometimes growth needs to be fast and easy, and adding just a little more disk space could save you a lot of time down the road.

Web Hosting Thoughts, Views and Ideas

All of my Web hosting thoughts, views and ideas are sponsored byData Center Talk. Data Center Talk is the best set of forums on the Earth about the world of Web hosting data centers.

I got an interesting e-mail from a guy named Dave this week. Dave writes:

Hello Mitch,
I wanted to ask you about domain names and hyphens. You say steer clear of hyphens when you create a domain name but as I understand it, search engine crawlers can't read two words run together but can read them if they are hyphenated. Hyphenated names would therefore have a distinct advantage when it comes to SEO. Do you know if this is true or a myth?

Well let me start things off first by saying, I am not a search engine optimization expert and I don't play one on TV either. Does having a hyphenated domain name mean more to a robot crawling through your Web page? Maybe, maybe not. The point I like to make though is that I want to please the real people that come to the Web site first, and the search engine robots second. Now I know in some circles that might just sound crazy. Having a hyphenated domain name though means it makes it harder for folks to remember. You could in turn by the non-hyphenated and the hyphenated domain names, but that wouldn't be the easy road, would it? In my opinion, in SEO terms the domain name is small potatoes. What you want to look for is good solid content, page titles and getting folks linking back to your Web site in question. So I help that answers your question!

Do you have a Web hosting topic of discussion you'd like to hear me cover on The Web Hosting Show? Then make sure you send it tomitch@mitchkeeler.comand I'll try to get it on the next episode of The Web Hosting Show.

Web Site Design Help

All of The Web Hosting Show's design help is sponsored byBrowseHosts. BrowseHosts is the most comprehensive Web hosting directory out there today.

This week's Web site in for review isExtremeNotes.com. Who are they? Well this next phrase was found on the front page:

ExtremeNotes, is one of the nation's rising providers of educational and career services for individuals, schools and businesses. ExtremeNotes has helped transform the for-profit education industry, setting professional standards in an era of educational innovation, global expansion and technological advancement.

Got to give you credit there, that sounds pretty darn good.

First thing I would change, would be to warn folks that the files they are clicking on are going to be PDF files and not HTML files. People like to know what type of files you are having them download, and just having them as regular old links just ain't going to cut it. The way the Web page automatically refreshes to rotate the ads is really annoying as well. For myself, it is a little less of an annoyance, but if you had somebody on dial-up looking at the Web page they'd have to wait a minute or two for it to refresh every time. By then you have lost them as a visitor.

I'd like to see some more text on the other pages that hold the notes as well. Give me a teaser or two about what the notes are on or about. Other than that, just cut back on some of the annoying ads and you should be well on your way to having one heck of a good looking Web site.

Do you need some help with your Web site design? Would you like me to just let you know what it is you could do to make your Web presence that much better? Make sure you send me an E-mail tomitch@mitchkeeler.comand I'll try to get your questions answered and your Web site reviewed on the next episode of The Web Hosting Show.

Web Hosting Web Site of the Week

The Web hosting Web site of the week is brought to you by Banners World.Banners Worldis the number one place to visit to get all your Web site graphics, banners and designs done.

This week's Webhosting Web site of the week isTweakGeek.com. TweakGeek.com is one of the best cPanel information Web sites I have ever seen. A few years ago I used to complain to folks about how there just wasn't that much information about some of the more advanced aspects of cPanel. TweakGeek.com answers that call with flying colors. They have news, tutorials, information and anything else you might need to know about your favorite control panel. Some of the content there might fly over the heads of your average Web hoster, but belive me there are some system admins out there that are very happy to have this resource bookmarked. So check it out and let them know that the Web Hosting Show sent you there!

Do you have a Web site that deserves to be the next Web hosting Web site of the week? Make sure you send it tomitch@mitchkeeler.comand I'll try to get it on the next episode of The Web Hosting Show.
