Today we take a tour of the Silver Mountain Winery (http://www.silvermtn.com), and sample some wines. We also talk about Souldier of Fortune which is the music that we used in the beginning and end of our Podcast. We also discuss the Passport Program of the Santa Cruz Mountains Wine Growers Association . During our Passport Day, Silver Mountain had a vertical tasting which we found very interesting and allowed us to compare different vintages of the same style of wine.

Vertical Tasting - A vertical tasting involves wines from different vintages but all the wines will come from the same winery. If the winery produces more than one type of wine, you would select a single wine from that winery and taste multiple vintages of that wine. For instance, you might have 4 vintages (1999, 2000, 2001, and 2002) of Chardonnay. When you hold a Vertical tasting, you are learning more about the differences between different vintages rather than the differences in wineries or styles.

The wines that we reviewed are:

  • 2001 Chardonnay (Estate, organically grown, $20 bottle)

  • 2000 Alloy (Bordeaux Blend of Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot and Petite Verdot $24 bottle)

  • - A Guy
