Governor Jon Huntsman has argued that it should be raised to $3 a pack. But yesterday, we spoke with a representative from Phillip Morris, who told us that cigarette tax increases in other states have been unsuccessful and they hurt small businesses that sell cigarettes. Today, we sit down with Michael Siler, Director of Government Relations for the American Cancer Society's Cancer Action Network in Utah. He tells KCPW's Jeff Robinson why the tax increase is a good idea, for smokers and for the economy.
