Link to the Show / Show NotesThis show features jazz trios in many different combinations. One usually thinks of piano, bass and drums as your traditional jazz trio, and indeed much of this show is with that format. Beyond that are piano-less trios led by sax, guitar, organ-guitar-drum trios, and other formats represented here. Of particular interest is the unique sound of Rudresh Mahanthappa's new trio Indo-Pak coalition with alto sax, guitar and tabla. It is a very interesting fusion of jazz and mid-eastern sounds that works very well. I also want to draw attention to the George Colligan trio that performed last Friday at Firehouse12 in New Haven. George is an amazing talented composer and piano player as heard on two tracks in this podcast. Thanks George for the fine performance and CD.
