Welcome once again to another show. I finally got my hands on the amazing new Benda Bilili album and had to kick off the show with the soulful, heart wrenching James Brown inspired 'Je Taime'. If you haven't heard of this outfit then they are a group of paraplegic street musicians and friends who live in and around the grounds of the zoo in Kinshasa, Congo - just because they can't use their legs doesn't mean they can't play - amazing stuff, just check the You tube link below. The sounds of nu-jazz and broken beat rear their head this week, a rare appearance since their rapid demise a couple of years ago - David Borsu comes through with a wicked jazzy house number from the forthcoming Broadcite compilation and I also played a track from the one and only Domu's new compilation of remixes and rarities due soon on Tru-Thoughts. Mayer Hawthorne has a voice to die for, if you don't believe me just have a listen to 'Maybe So, Maybe No' - real soul music. The rest of the show is spent showcasing where music is at and heading in 2009. Had to drop another Filaria track - the Kinnego boys are some of favourites of the new dubstep generation, FaltyDL is making some great twisted post garage future 2-step and you also get two tracks from what is destined to be one of the albums of the year - 89 by Kotchy an amazing mish mash of hip hop, pop, and experimental sounds by this talented multi-instrumentalist, beat programming singer. If this sounds like your cup of tea then you also have to look out for Phantogram. BBE have picked them up and their album is a similarly unclassifiable stew of quality music - more info when I hear a bit more. I also had to drop Congo Whoomp from Debruit, undoubtedly one of the biggest Wonky tunes to date.. Staff Benda Bilili - Je T'Aime (Crammed Discs) Don Cherry & Latif Khan - Air Mail, Chin Chin rmx (Heavenly Sweetness promo) David Borsu - True Loves Hair (Broadcite promo) Domu - Springbreak (Tru Thoughts promo) Trevor & Lisa - Soundshake (Favourite promo) Mayer Hawthorne - Maybe So, Maybe No (Stones Throw promo) Filaria - Batteria Acid (Kinnego promo) FaltyDL - Wnter Sole (Planet Mu promo) Kotchy - Falling In Love (Civil Music) Kotchy - Check Out My Keychain (Civil Music) Speech Debelle Go Then, Bye, hotomachine & EL-B remix (Ninja Tune promo) Debruit - Congo Whoomp (Musique Large) Soundspecies - Mask (Burnt Progress) DJ Vadim - You Are Yours ft Yarah Bravo (BBE promo) Phantogram - When I'm Small (BBE promo)
