Kicking off with a long overdue cut from Mocky's outstanding new album Saskamodie, a truly crafted album full of old school musical flavour but sounding fresh for 2009 and a rare album that both your mates and your mum will like. David Baxter drops more of his unique take on future funk and the b-side Ost & Kjex rmx of German jazz maverick Wigald Boning is a deep glitchy house classic. It took me a while to check it (I blame living in Spain!) but I'm loving the Afrocentric Donaeo UK Funky track and Busy Signal comes up with a wicked Afro vibe on his latest dancehall banger.
The last year has seen the Colombian Cumbia rhythm infiltrating music styles worldwide and I had to drop the deep Moonrra track from chief Cumbia hype-monger Russ Jone's great 'Arriba La Cumbia' compilation. Paten Locke is dropping his album in the summer and from the little sampler I received it's sounding great - some great jazzy breaks and quality lyrics and Notes To Self come through with another solid slice of hip hop due out on BBE soon. The wonderfully titles PANTyYRAID drop a future bassline Balearic classic and I drop the Yoggyone track that I meant to play two weeks ago (but by mistake I played another one oops. Live one take radio - love it!). I finished the show with a couple of tracks from the new Tru-Thoughts, Shapes compilation due out anytime - check the wonderfully lush Charles Stepney inspired 'Arianita' from Quantic.
