Soon, I’ll be another year older and you know like most people my age, I get anxious and always contemplate suicide, but it’s just thoughts.
I’m making thiscompletely self-absorbedaudio display of a depressed birthday podcast.
Don’t worry, I’ll have aregularone up for the weekend.
This one doesn’t count because it’s sort of a downer… :(
So, if you like, press play andwallowwith me!
This podcast featuresThe Posiessong that made me fall in love with them back in…19??... oh, trust me, alongtime ago!
You Avoid Parties:: The Posies :: There’s something about this song which moved me deeply, as I was entering my freshman year of college. It reminded me of the life I was leaving. My home and all that was inside it. Not the physical, but the emotional bonds I wanted to be free from.
The lyrics are poetic genius. Even if you don’t like The Posies or this song, at least give the words a listen. I die everytime I hear the line,“And now you’re finally on your own, you draw your choices from the voices you despise...” And this line,“To test your will would take the skill of crazy ants…”.
Some other notable tracks:
Fox In The Snow:: Belle& Sebastian :: I was immediately drawn to this song the very first time I heard it. Again, I feel close to it. As if it’s a friend who knows all of my secrets, without me even having to say a word.
You Do:: Aimee Mann :: She consistently sings how I feel.
Don’t Cry Out Loud:: Melissa Manchester :: I loved this song when I was a child. It always solicited many tears from my young eyes. It was one of those songs I memorized and would sing my heart out through tears on the swing in the backyard. It’s not that I enjoyed crying so much, it just felt good.
Also, this song represents one of the few tunes my mother and I both enjoyed. I recall her, driving in the car, AM-Radio on (Yes! AM!) and her singing just as loud and passionate as me in the backseat. She’s one of those mom’s who took voice lessons, sang in the church choir, and simple songs like“Happy Birthday” were performed like a mini-opera.
I apologize for my tongue tied idiot pronunciation of“Transatlanticism”!! :P I promise and swear to you, I can say it! Sigh, sadly English is my first language.
Last Crawl:: The Posies :: I’m picking the really mellow Posies’ tunes this time, but they are actually quite rockin’! This song will be me soon… on the floor.
I know, I made a podcast formyself! And that’s kind of lame, but hey, it’s my birthday soon and I take care ofme. We all should do things for ourselves once in a while, because as I’ve learned in my XX amount of years on this planet, you just can’t count on other people.
Really, in the end, all you have is yourself.
Happy Birthday, to all my fellow Leos out there.
