Back to normality, familiar studios and better sound quality this week kicking off with wonderful singer song writer Jeb Loy Nichols and possibly my favourite track from his new album on Impossible Ark. The Portico Quartet are back with a new album soon to come and a new record label, if you liked their previous outing you wont be disappointed. Collage are being re-issued and their album is a great quirky mixture of late 60's Estonian folk, jazz and pop, check it - I think you'll like it, it's better than my poor description! Mr. Thing is returning with his new installment of Strange Breaks and Mr. Thing rare breaks compilation on BBE chock full of great sounding soul and funk that I never knew existed - good work. Aardvark is about to unleash his latest album on the ever interesting Eat Concrete records and the Kronos Quartet have released their 40th album (spread over 30 years!) of string led adventures and it's a wonderful thing. Anti Pop Consortium are coming out of their self imposed 6 year solo project time out and have a new offering on Big Dada and The incredible Funk League have enlisted the Large Professor for some great golden age hip hop vibes. Raz Ohara and The Odd Orchestra win the best name of the week award and have just released a great quirky jazz flavoured eclectic electronic album which is well worth a listen and Kelpe has produced one of the best album of beats you'll hear this year, familiar but avoiding the cliches and coming through with his own flavour, I like it alot. Dancer vs Politician are some sensitive Anglo German folksters who are sounding nice and one of my favourite mixtape DJs ever Ruckus Roboticus has just given LA based Electro Hopsters LMFAO a great Latin makeover - BIG party tune. Edu K has done wonders remixing Daniel Haaksman, minimal forro is now officially the future of dance music. Point B wraps up the show with an atmospheric dubstep corker from his new album on Combat Recordings. Jeb Loy Nichols - Probably Never Stop (Tru Thoughts) Portico Quartet - Dawn Patrol (Real World promo) Collage - Halb Sirp (Wool Recordings promo) Frank Pleyer Big Band - Sally (BBE promo) Dick Walter - Spooky Doo (BBE promo) Aardvarck - idlunt (Eat Concrete promo) Kronos Quartet - Tashweesh, Interference (Nonesuch Records) Anti-Pop Consortium - New Jack Exterminator (Big Dada promo) The Incredible Funk League feat Large Professor - Through Good and Bad (Favorite promo) Raz Ohara & The Odd Orchestra - Varsha (Physical promo) Kelpe - After Gold (DC Recordings promo) Dancer vs Politician - Die Fantastischen Vier (Mono Music Records promo) LMFAO - I'm In Miami Bitch, Ruckus Roboticus Remix (White) Daniel Haaksman - Kid Conga feat MC Miltinho & Edu K, Mininal Forro rmx (Man Recordings promo) Point B - To Follow You (Combat Recordings promo) Here's a quick look at the ever adventurous Kronos Quartet getting all 'Purple Haze' with their strings:
