Link to the Show / Show NotesThe theme this week…painting.
Colors, models, museums… you know, artsy stuff!!
Okay, okay…
I admit, I had a bit of podcaster’s block this week.
Geez!
- Art Snob Solutions by Of Montreal:: I love this song. The lyrics crack me up. Really. They do.
- The Model by Belle& Sebastian:: This is probably my 5th favorite song of theirs, and one of mymost favoritesongs, of all time. The lyrics turn the song into a short story. I was so inspired by this song, I tried to create a photo set for Flickr.
Needless to say,my lack ofanyphotography skills and well, me as my main subject, lead to quite disastrous results.
Don’t believe me? Well, I took a“photo”:, a literal interpretation about“Lisa” who put on the blindfold. Hmm… I don’t quite think the way it turned out was quite what Stuart had intended in the song.
- Postcards of a Painting by Maximo Park:: Hey, it had“painting” in the title! I love this CD, you know.
My favorite line:“Your eyes are big when they’re so close”... Uh, like noduhMr. Maximo! It’s okay, you’re just a rockstar. Not a rocket scientist.
- The Art Teacher by Rufus Wainwright:: I am still inlovewith this song. I always think of it when I go to a museum, or pass by a…museum. In fact, I will listen to it on the iPod next time I’m in one; like a dork.
- Tiny Paintings by Architecture In Helsinki:: Hmm… if you can tell me what this song is about you win a prize! Oh well, it’s fun to sing along to.
- A Lack Of Color by Death Cab For Cutie:: A beautiful song. Ben Gibbard rules. What woman wouldn’t go back to a guy like that? Well? And isn’t“Gibbard” a great last name? I always think of“gizzard”... hmm.. now that’s an ever better last name!
- Post-Paint Boy by Stephen Malkmus:: Thanks to Daniel for sharing this mp3 with me. Listening to this song reminds me of that poster artist guy,Robbie Conal.
I remember we had this exhibit at the museum I worked at,“Art of Attack” and he was a part of it, along with others like… the Guerrilla Girls. Anyway, he was forever popping in and out. My co-workers and I agreed, he wasn’t a very nice guy.
Oh, I love Stephen’s pronounciation of“non-Eur-oh-pee-on” and his“yip”!
Stephen, youreally, really, reallymake singing songsfunagain.
- Vincent by Don McLean:: This is a super old one, but it’ssogood. Don McLean gives an old-school shout out to Van Gogh.Yo, wassup Vinny!(Oh that’s not funny.. haha… is anyone even reading this?? .... *cough… Nope.)
As ayoung gir, (oh man, how many times can I say that? Dang!) I loved the images of beautiful sadness McLean painted lyrically. And the first time I saw a Van Gogh in person, that song ran through my mind as I stood there. I almost cried.
(Um.. Daniel, you’vereallynever heard this song before? *gasp!)
Well, I apologize for my technically-nerdy difficulties in this podcast, with the sound levels and all. Remember, anybodycan podcast. I know, Iknow... you all thought I went to special night school classes for this, huh?
