This week we have an extra podcast, with a teaching by Jim Denman on the ascension of Messiah. Don't forget to listen to the second part of Tim Terry's teaching on the book of Jude, you will find it immediately under this one...
Yeshua tells His disciples in Matthew 28:19 to go “…and make disciples of all the nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe all things that I have commanded you…”
Today is the 40th day of the counting of the Omer; the day that Yeshua ascended to heaven in the sight of His disciples. So, when we look at the ”Great Commission,” the question is… are we doing it? Are we making disciples of the nations? Are we making the type of disciples that Yeshua had in mind? Men and women who emulate His Torah walk? Are we training people to “shmar mitzvot” or “observe or guard the Commandments” in the same manner that He taught? Do we, as a body, look like Him?
The short answer is a resounding no. The long answer is ‘…sort of.’
The church today has a very Greek mindset – we are bent on gaining knowledge. We are, however, not putting much weight on the application of that knowledge. Knowledge without application is worthless; at least in the Hebraic mindset.
When Jesus, in Matthew 28 tells His disciples to “…teach the nations to... observe all things that I have commanded you,” was making reference to Torah observance. He was telling them to teach those who would follow Him to walk like He walked. After all, that is what a disciple, or talmudim does – they mimic their Master.
Is there any other way to mimic Jesus apart from obedience of the Law, or Torah? He never broke one commandment! We know that He never transgressed Torah, so in mimicking Him, shouldn’t that be our goal?
May the Lord bless you and keep you,
Shabbat shalom!
