Baroque Violinist Christina Day Martinson and harpsichordist Martin Pearlman tackle three of the fifteen “Rosary Sonatas” by Heinrich von Biber. These pieces call for “scordatura” (mis-tuned) violin, which makes for an unusual sound. Heinrich von Biber: “Rosary” (or “Mystery”) Sonatas: Sonata no. 1 (The Annunciation) Sonata no. 10 (The Crucifixion) Sonata no. 14 (The Assumption of the Virgin) Recorded at WGBH's Studio One on July 7, 2006, and broadcast September 13, 2006 on WGBH.
