Man, That Guy’s Such An Assyrian
A “laptop”? Unthinkable, you brute. If hammering cuneiform into stone tablets was good enough for the Epic of Gilgamesh, it’s certainly good enough for the other patrons of this coffeehouse.
No, I most certainly will not leave, nor will I alter my writing method. I’m not one of those flighty scribblers who are always anxious to “get with the times.” I, sir, am a WRiter. Yes, capital W and capital R. That is how important my calling is to me. What do I care if a few easily distracted cafe layabouts object to the sound of my chisel? Art itself is at stake!
So don’t waste your breath trying to convince me I should be writing on an HP Core2 Duo Notebook. Limit my piercing vision of the human condition to what can fit in a 17.3” LED screen? Never! Not even with the addition of a widescreen monitor and an HDMI cable (both sold separately)!
Wait, why did I say that about being sold separately? I fear your consumerist fetishism has infected even my innermost thoughts! Is nothing sacred, sir?
At any rate, you can wax poetic about the 320GB hard drive, and 4GB of RAM, and the 2.2GHz Intel Core2 Duo processor, and the Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit. Yet I shall not be moved, even if I had the foggiest notion what any of that stuff is. Perhaps if I were trying to land a man on the moon, or process Social Security claims, a computer would be the proper tool. But as I said, I am a WRiter. And as such, I shall tell my tale the way the very first scribes told theirs: with a hammer, a chisel, a stone tablet, and a bountiful imagination!
It would be nice if these stone tablets only weighed 7 pounds, though. I’ll give you that.
