Link to the Show / Show NotesRolling along with the audio from New Jersey, and Jack chimes in with the Vertical panel. Eddie Stemkowski, Marketing Manager, lead most of the conversation that covered a little bit of Vertical history, some news on their upcoming titles Ode to Kirihito and Terra he... and then went on to their novels. Much love at the Vertical Panel. I only wish I could have seen the images of the Kirihito release!
Vertical
Vertical Inc., an indie publishing house specializing in contemporary Japanese fiction joins us at MangaNEXT to talk about their forays in licensing and publishing manga for a US audience.
Once again no new manga announcements in the podcast but Jack was excited about some new Sudoku releases.
In my opinion Vertical has the potential to be the Ponent Mon of North America. These guys release their books with top of the line production values and they seem to love their releases more than anyone in the business (maybe even more than some Japanese pubs). They also tend to look at the classics that people should be reading instead of the pop titles that most people think they want. At the same time, I almost wish Vertical could balance out the novels and manga a bit more.... Wait that was blasphamy! I read their version of the Ring Trilogy and have bought at least 4 copies of each volume for gifts in the past few years. Their novels kick, but I want to seem them release more kicking manga as well.
Can't I want it all sometimes?!
