In his new book, Raceball, University of Pittsburgh historian Rob Ruck writes that "the globalization" of the sport once known as America's pastime "has come at the expense of baseball beyond U.S. borders." Ruck finds connections between that syndrome, the relatively low cost of Latino players, the declining number of African American players in the Major Leagues, and the withering of the winter leagues.
