Link to the Show / Show NotesMarketing Strategist Mark Robert Blackmon looks at the latest circulation numbers from the Audit Bureau of Circulations as well as other recent reports of the continued down trend in newspaper readers. However, Blackmon reports that the message is exceptionally good in one respect -- many newspapers are seeing their first major readership gains in years -- for their online editions. Blackmon says that we can all learn something from this -- being able to spot a trend like this is one of the most important tools that we have in our arsenal as it allows us to develop new plans to maximize our relationships with our users/potential users. Print and Web-Based verisions of the newspaper, say Blackmon, are an excellent example of a "double play," hence the title of this episode. Blackmon also provides a reading of Franklin Pierce Adams's 1910 poem "Baseball's Sad Lexicon" and a definition for the baseball-related euphemism"from Tinker to Evers to Chance."
