New research from the province of Alberta, on end-of-life care for the elderly, is showing cultural differences have a significant impact on patients' attitudes and expectations. The Link's Calgary correspondent, Frank Rackow, tells us about Dr. Earle Waugh's study and how it could lead to new approaches in care-RUFO GOES TO THE MOVIES-In times of cultural turmoil, when Western society sometimes seems to be in conflict with the values of the Muslim world, movies occasionally appear that aim to bridge those differences. Canadian movie director Ruba Nadda's latest film called Cairo Time may be one such film. The Link's film reviewer Rufo Valencia is in with his thoughts on the film-DR. SIDDIQ-Assisted suicide is not legal in Canada but doctors still have to grapple with it, especially when they have patients facing difficult terminal conditions. Our health expert Dr. Nayeema Siddiq weighs in on this debate-THE SPORTS CAR-MAN CONNECTION-Given the choice between a shiny new Porsche and a beat up old Sedan, the choice seems obvious. What's not so obvious is how a man's biological drive changes depending on that car. Marc Montgomery speaks with Gad Saad, a researcher at Concordia University's John Molson School of Business who studied how just sitting behind the wheel of a sports car can affect a man's biological function-SPORTS WRAP-Ian Jones is in to talk about Canada's alpine ski team and WIN2010.ca, its plan to raise money ahead of the 2010 Vancouver/Whistler Olympics.

NEW WAVE OF PROGRESSIVE ROCK
2003年頃、本格的に活動を開始。クラブミュージック、ポストロック、音響、
ジャム、プログレッシヴロックなどを内包したインストゥルメンタル主体の楽曲
は、ギター、ベース、ドラム、キーボード、シンセサイザー、サックス、グロッ
ケンシュピールによって鮮やかに奏でられる。生楽器によるミニマリズムを重視
した音楽性を基本に構築され、豊かなリズムと音の波が押し寄せ、心地よいグ
ルーヴを創り上げながらも、突如、ユニゾン、変拍子といった展開を挿入、既存
のインストバンドとは違うダイナミズムを取り入れ、リスナーを圧倒する。その
音楽センスの高さは、ライブハウスシーンから海外メディアまで広がり、1stア
ルバムリリースから3年半を経過した今日に至るまで、海外ツアーや自主企画な
どを行い、コンスタンスに活動を続けてきた。その間、幾度のメンバーチェンジ
を伴い、現メンバーはそれぞれ、OCEANLANE、トクマルシューゴ＆ザ・マジック
バンド、狂うクルー、4bonjour’s parties、俺はこんなもんじゃない、など様々
なバンドでも活躍。そんな強靭なメンバー編成でレコーディングされた待望の
2ndアルバム『R.U.R.』を09年11月11日にリリースする。ネクストステージにあ
がったhenrytennisの現在が詰め込まれた最高傑作である。

彼らによる音源リリースは、2006年に発売された前作『Eight Rare Cases』
以来約3年6ヶ月ぶりとなる。『Eight Rare Cases』リリース当時のメンバー
からギター・奥村以外のメンバーがー総入れ替えするなど、苦難を乗り越えた
彼らの現在進行形を感じることができる作品となっている。
なお新規加入メンバーは、OCEANLANEのベース・堀越武志、トクマルシューゴ
バンドなどで活躍するドラマー・岸田佳也ら強力な面々となっている。
